Judit Bar-Ilan
This is a terrible shock. I will miss her very much. My strongest memory is her cheery explanation, “No relation!”, when introducing herself at meetings and reporting that she was from Bar-Ilan University. She was a great influence on me and on the field of altmetrics, not only through the journal but also through decades of determination to make practical investigations into the value of new sources of web data.

I have man many good memories of Judit, primarily at conferences. Most prominent was at the ISSI conference in Jerusalem 1997. We are all going to miss her a lot. Condolances to family and friends, which we all are.

My deep condolence to Judit family and her friends. I met her in 1997. Since that time I have fondly memory about meeting her at the conferences. I was glad that she was able to visit Moscow participating at the conference and be at my home. Her death struck me as many others who knew her dedication to the research and family.

I am still shocked and sad about Judit’s passing. She was such an outstanding mentor and I cannot imagine an ISSI/STI conference or SIGMET/altmetrics workshop without her. Judit was one of my first international co-authors ten years ago and she has been a friend ever since. I will miss her deeply and send my heartfelt condolences to her family.

I was greatly saddened to learn of Judit’s passing. Her contributions to informetrics, information retrieval, and their overlap, were inspirational. I fondly remember working with Judit on conference workshops and panels for ASIST and the iConference. My sincerest condolences to her family and colleagues. Judit will be missed.

My sincerest condolences to her friends, family and colleagues. She was such a cheerful person. I once asked her to share one of her papers with me and without hesitation she complied (actually she shared several and not one) and by so doing helped me to successfully defend my PhD proposal. I will always be grateful to her.

I am very sad to hear that Judit has passed and my heart goes out to her closest family and friends.
However, I am happy to have a great memory of spending time with her in at the last ISSI conference in China, when she received the Derek de Solla Price award. I was so happy for her, and we had a fun day together with a few other colleagues visiting tourist sites together in Wuhan. All of us had the funniest moment together with when trying to wave a taxi to bring us back to our hotel. It was raining heavily.. and for some reason a lot of drivers stopped, but kept driving away on us.. and we could not figure out why?? or what we said? 😂) Judit was always smiling, always so contributive, always so professional…. and I am certain that she mentored others and carried out research for the “love of it”. That’s what she said to me once: “focus on what you love to do” 😊. Its too soon that she is gone. I am sure that I and so many others will miss her greatly! 😞

I was shocked and deeply saddened to receive the terrible news. I knew Judit for many years and met her in various conferences. Every time we met, she was warm and cheerful. I always enjoyed chatting with her. It is hard to believe that she has left us. I miss her. Her dedication and contribution to the field is truly impressive and inspirational. I send my deepest condolences to her family.

I was deeply saddened by the news of Judit’s passing. I will miss her very much. She was a truly remarkable scholar, a great mentor and a wonderful friend. I met Judit through SIGMET. She was very enthusiastic about it and was actively supporting it, truly wanting it to succeed. However, SIGMET was only one of a number of projects initiated by very junior people that Judit wholeheartedly backed up. She truly cared about nurturing young scholars. Also, her inquisitive mind led her to always push the boundaries and to embrace novel sources of data. But, she never took things at face value. Meeting Judit at conferences was always a treat and I very much looked forward to it! I will always remember a very hot July evening in Evanston, when after a very long day at a conference, we decided to have an ice-cream for dinner and found our “rebellion” against proper dinner food a source of great amusement and merriment. Her enthusiasm for research and science has inspired me and I consider myself lucky to have had a chance to work with her. My most heartfelt condolences to her family.

I was very saddened to hear of Judit’s passing. I will miss her calming presence and her smile. She was an amazing scholar, a mentor, and a friend. I met Judit when I was first trying to break in to the Altmetrics field; she was always a presence at the Altmetrics Converence and the SIG/MET group. She was very supportive and had good things to say about others’ work. I remember her speech when she accepted the ASIS&T Research in Information Science Award and thinking what an amazing path/life she had and how I wanted to be like her. She will be sorely missed by her colleagues, mentees, and friends. My deepest condolences to her family.
